Manufacturing

Pharmacy Medical are medical equipment manufacturers. From their stock range through to bespoke and customer specific manufacture. They manufacture all their own brand goods from their factory in Nottinghamshire, East Midlands. From design through to dispatch the process is self-contained as much as possible with only locks, castors and raw materials being purchased from outside whenever possible.

The production process takes the form of six main steps, which are:

  • CAD design
  • Laser cutting
  • CNC press forming
  • Welding
  • Powder coating
  • Assembly and dispatch

CAD Design

Pharmacy Medical employ the latest CAD software to help design and engineer their products. Using Solidworks they are able to design and visualise their products even before they start fabrication. Solidworks also has the advantage of being able to create realistic renders to show customers visuals of bespoke work etc prior to cutting steel.

Laser Cutting

Pharmacy Medical recently invested in a new state of the art fibre laser cutting machine. Upgrading their old Amada CO2 laser for an Amada Ensis 4020 AJ fibre laser. Using this laser, and cutting with Nitrogen gas, allows them to rapidly cut blank parts for their items with a clean edge suitable for welding. Complete with an automatic sheet changer, this new laser cutter is working all day producing flat blanks that will eventually form the products they sell.

CNC Press Forming

Utilising 2 CNC controlled press brakes, Pharmacy Medical can accurately and repeatedly form the laser cut profiles into the components of their products for welding. Both machines are of the same specification, with one 2.5m in maximum bend with, and the other 3m. With a maximum force capacity of 1,350kN, they are up to the task of forming any of the metals used in Pharmacy Medicals products.

Welding

Welding is the stage at which the component parts start to look like the finished goods. Our experienced welders used a welding process called TIG. This process is slower than the more commonly used MIG wed, however produces a cleaner weld that requires much less finishing. Many of Pharmacy Medicals welders are now so skilled at TIG welding that there is no finishing required before paint.

Powder Coating

Powder Coating is the final stage in the ‘manufacturing’ process. Here the cabinets are painted in their tough and durable polyester coat. Pharmacy Medicals team of painters are responsible for the application of powder to the products before their mechanical paint conveyor transports the goods to the oven where the powder is baked to the product. All products are fully cleaned and de-greased prior to paint, they are then suspended from the powder conveyor prior to powder application and baking. All in all it takes approximately 40 minutes to paint a single cabinet, including the 12 minutes it takes to bake in the oven at almost 200 degrees!

Assembly

Once painted, Pharmacy Medicals team in dispatch get to work. Assembling and packing all orders for dispatch via courier to their final destination. Pharmacy Medicals newly built dispatch are allows for a clean and dedicated space, larger than ever before to handle the growing number of items shipped from their factory every day. These goods are shipped with either a parcel courier such as DPD, or via a pallet network depending on size.
